Eric Dressen about his beginnings on skateboarding
Hello my friends and readers here are some words by Eric Dressen to our blog about his youth in skateboarding and first sponsors , so open the beer and read some quick infos about this legend :
I’m born and raised in Los Angeles, 57 years old, started skating when I was 8 years old . First skateboard was a Super Surfer with Clay Wheels 1975, My dad got it for me . I wanted to learn how to surf, my Uncle told me to learn how to skate first, I really like surfing but couldn’t go everyday, and that really frustrated me, I could skateboard anytime I wanted and didn’t have to depend on anyone taking me to beach. I ended up enjoying skateboarding more than surfing. Around this time skateboarding was about to grow in the world. When I saw the first issue of Skateboarder Magazine, I knew that’s all I wanted to do and become a pro skateboarder. In the 1970’s I hung out will older guys that knew where the pools and other spots were. I would skate school yard banks, backyard pools, downhills, and funky made ramps and maybe go to a Skate Park on the weekends. 1980’s I would hang out in Venice Beach street skating, curbs, jump ramps, backyard pools and school yards. Now I mainly go to Skate Parks and private backyard bowls. By far my biggest inspiration as a kid was Tony Alva and Jay Adams, looking at photos of them in Skateboarder Magazine, made me want to be a pro skater more then anything. In 1977 I got on the Logan skate team, in 1978 got on the original Alva team, 1986 got on Dog Town team, 1989 got on Santa Cruz team. Now I’ve been on Santa Cruz team for the last 20 years. My main sponsors are Santa Cruz, Independent, OJ, Mob Grip, Bronson Bearings, Uppercut Pomade, Vans Shoes and S1 Helmets.
