Interview Yusaku Horii

 

Hi whats your name how long you skate and how old you are and where are you from?

Hi my name is Yusaku Horii, I’m 40 years old , been skating 30 years. I’m from Tatsuno city Hyogo Japan. That area called BANSHU. And there is also OG sumo wrestler worship.

Tell me something about your begginins on skateboard 

My dad is a man of old school surfer, Dad’s skate deck was big old shape Powell Peralta. I often rode dads deck actually. When 90’s I was watching snowboarding video suddenly street skate footages show up in the movie. with double kick deck,small wheels,flip and ledge tricks.And I just thought “so rad”

I needed to get double kick skate deck.

Then I went super market to buy cheap double kick skateboard to get that tricks.I’m skateboarding enthusiast since then. 

Dad’s Powell Peralta deck still alive now too.

Tell us something about your local scene then and now?

There was a bunch of skaters and crew around local scene. So many different style there. Skaters were like appearance with jump ramp on the nice whip,curb box,boom box,dad cam,sketchy side chicks,they looks like have like every things in this world through my kid eyes. And it took just an only flat ground place in the past! 

Now there is a lot of good skate park in BANSHU area as well , young kid, old guy, every nice dudes hanging out at the park.

On the streets same as then with little more ninja style. More party’s more HD’s and VX’s.

Environment designs are different between now and then, but my favorite skate scene is looks still same in the area. cuz I love my town.
