Interview Jonathan Marino aka Shreddie Mercury
Hi, thanks for your time tell us where are you from , how old you are and how old you skate ?
I’m from Rockville, Maryland (Near Washington DC) and both of my parents were born in Bogota, Colombia. I’ve been skating since 1997 so that’s 27 years.
Tell us about your beginnings on skateboard, where and why you started skating and what was your favourite spot to skate
I saw skateboarding first on TV (X Games) and then later saw an older kid skating by in my neighborhood and I thought it looked so cool! From that moment I was hooked. My favorite spot was the streets in my neighborhood since I couldn’t go too far from home. (Gaithersburg, MD)
What was your first skate complete did you remember that? and which complete is your favourite now?: i see on gram you skate a many style of boards
My first complete was a Nash with paper graphic and sprinkled sand grip from Toys R Us. My first legit set up was a World Industries Flame boy VS Wet Willy (Slick) with Tensor trucks and blue Wet Willy wheels from CCS mail order.
I currently have more than 10 complete set ups but it’s hard to say which is my favorite because they’re all different styles.
Are you a park or street skater? which you prefer?
I’m a 100% Skateboarder so my attitude is to have fun with anything skateboard related.
Your favourite skate tricks? which ones you do on every sesh?
I don’t do many tricks. Mostly trying to find good lines and have fun rolling around.
Whats your favourite spot to skate now? i see on your gram you skate pumptracks which one is your favourite
I like the pump track at La Quinta skatepark, CA. It’s the biggest one I’ve skated so far and so it’s a great workout.
I know you like Slalom skating , how did you get into it ?
I had seen slalom in old magazines before but it wasn’t until I met a veteran racer Scott Hostert (@imrealgone) that it became more of a reality. He was going over seas to race in Europe and doing really well. The way he skated through the cones really inspired me. He helped me get set up with the right gear and my first race was Oct 4th 2019 in Morro Bay, CA. That was such a special day! I got a photo taken by another veteran slalom racer Steve Evans (@optiknerve57) and met the founder of the National Skate Review and La Costa Racing -Di Dootson
